I got a pair of
Revision Bullet Ant goggles from Dark Threads and have since fielded them on three separate occasions so I figured that it was time to do a review.
The first outing was out at Camp 259. It's a place that really tests eye wear because the hills make you sweat and the topo-bottom varies from damp to swampy depending on the season and most recent weather. I had no fogging issues when we were up in the field but once we got down near the bottom to the natural glade the lenses started to hold moisture and soon I switched out to my old Wiley-X XL-1 standbys. I think it came down to not only the weather/location but also the fact that the lenses were a bit dusty since they were straight out of the box.
Before heading out for the second trial at the Acme field I removed the top foam strip to help with venting and it worked out well. The goggles performed beautifully. On one occasion I did get a slight haze when laying on the ground in an obviously moist patch of field but when I stood up to move the haze went away and didn't return for the rest of the game. Since this was the first time I wore them for any amount of time I noticed how comfortable the Bullet Ants were. I was amazed and noted to myself that they very well may be more comfortable than the smaller framed XL-1s.
The third outing was the longest with 6+ hours of nearly uninterrupted wear. Only once did I experience any kind of fogging issue - a slight haze. After a quick cleaning with a microfiber cloth the problem was banished for the rest of the day.
I already mentioned comfort but the attribute leaped to the fore as the day went on. To put it as simply as I can, I've never worn anything that felt so secure yet so loose. At one point I reached up to scratch my face only to touch goggle as I totally forgot that I had them on.
As far as general fit goes, it is fantastic. At one point I was wearing a boonie. Zero issues. Not even with venting. Same for when I was wearing an operator ball cap. The elastic strap is great because I can pull the goggles up over and stick 'em on the hat without fear that I'll absent mindlessly lose them when not in action.
Something else that I like is that I'm able to fully shoulder my gun and the goggles do not interfere with sight picture when using iron sights. Nor does it interfere with eye relief when looking through a scope. This is something that's very important to me.
I'm looking forward to further use especially in the coming summer months where, especially down at Camp 259 it gets so hot and sticky that the Wiley-Xs want to slide off my face. That is a true test of full seal goggles.
